Maria Cipriano

Maria Cipriano was born in Mozambique and grew up in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. She started jazz dance at the age of twelve years, at the Conservatoire de la ville du Luxembourg, from which she graduated with 1er prix en 2001. The next step in her dance training was at the ’institut professionnel de danse jazz Rick Odums, based in Paris.En 2008, she obtained her ‘Diplôme d’Etat de professeur de danse’ and began her career as a professional dancer within various young companies in France, such as Compagnie Adequate, Areysha dance company amongst others. Driven to explore new artistic horizons, Maria Cipriano moved to Barcelona in 2009 to join Anna Sanchez and continue her training in contemporary dance at Varium centre. Meeting Nadine Gerspacher she was offered the opportunity to perform in Catalonia and Menorca in the piece ‘A37°’ and to collaborate with Audrey Rocha in ‘Duo’, in 2010. She continued her journey onward to Germany, taking part in diverse collaborations with Andreas Lauck, both on stage and as a teacher : dancing in the piece ‘Living Room’ in 2011-2012 and winning two times in a row the world championship of dance in 2012 and 2013. She also choreographed pieces for national and international championships in Germany. In 2010, she worked with Jessica Neugebauer (DE) in the piece ‘Differently the same’ and with Willi Dorner (AU) in ‘Bodies in Urban Spaces’ in 2011.

 

In 2014 Maria Cipriano returned to Luxembourg to join the company of choreographer Jean-Guillaume Weis for two creations : ‘Frauen Tanz’ (2014) and ‘Flock’ (2015). She is also regularly engaged to choreography for the jazz exams at the Conservatoire du Nord du Luxembourg in Diekirch. She also teaches workshops and in various schools in Luxembourg since 2013. In 2018, Maria Cipriano participated in TROIS C-L, « Les Émergences » programme, creating the piece Mektoub? with Katia Benbelkacem (Premiered in April 2018).
